Аннотация:

The paper analyzes the shortcomings of the penitentiary system. Penitentiary abolitionism aims to abolish prisons and replace them with other types of punishments. The inefficiency of the penitentiary system includes the following: firstly, in the jails there is a large number of prisoners with mental illnesses who are not provided with proper treatment; secondly, imprisonment as a punishment is not an effective measure to restrain crimes and does not reeducate the criminal.
